We’ve all seen the adverts, haven’t we? It seems like every week there are more and more solicitors and law firms specialising in personal injury cases, doesn’t it? But while you have plenty of options when it comes to choosing a solicitor that comes with its own set of problems.

Having plenty of options is good but it can make choosing a solicitor difficult, especially when they are all claiming to be experts in personal injury cases. One common mistake many people make is they just go to the solicitor that is closest to them, but opting for the local choice isn’t always for the best.

And if you’ve been injured at work or on the road then your union or motoring agency will likely pick a solicitor to handle the legal matters for you. This might seem handy at first after all it saves you searching, doesn’t it? But did you ever consider that they might not be the best choice for your case?

Just because your union or agency selects them doesn’t mean you have to use their services, the injury happened to you, so you have the right to choose who handles your case. But this all comes back to the same problem, doesn’t it?

How exactly do you know who the best solicitor for your personal injury case is? Well, the best way to find out is to ask questions and do some research, yes this might be time-consuming, but it will ensure you have a solicitor you know can handle your case professionally. To help you ensure you make the right choice we asked Chris Stoy, a personal injury lawyer to outline some tips below.

Consider Your Injury

This might be a strange one but the type of injury you suffer will have a huge impact on the solicitor you should choose to take your case. While many solicitors claim to be personal injury experts when you take a closer look at them what they likely mean is that they specialise in a particular type of personal injury.

This could be accidents at work, traffic accidents or even criminal ones. Personal injuries come in many different forms so it’s important that you choose a solicitor who is actually experienced with cases similar to yours.

A solicitor might have a lot of experience dealing with personal injury claims due to accidents at work but if you have suffered a personal injury due to a traffic accident then are they going to be the best option for you? The answer is probably not, so don’t take any bold claims at face value and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Do You Research

This ties into my first point once you worked out a few options for solicitors that have experience with cases similar to yours you should carry out some more in-depth research. Take a look at their websites and see if there are any testimonials or reviews.

At the very least carry out a quick Google search and see what comes up, once you’ve narrowed down your options or think you’ve found the perfect match give them a ring and ask a few more questions. If you’re able to you could always ask to meet them face to face for an informal chat but speaking over the phone will do.

Ask questions about their experience and find out more about the cases they’ve dealt with in the past and what the outcome was. You might also want to ask if they can review your case to let you know what your chances of success will be.

When you’re searching for a solicitor to handle your compensation claim you need to be bold and ask questions. You should also ask for references if a solicitor is unwilling to give any then that is a big warning sign.

A personal injury can impact your finances in many ways and making a claim for compensation can not only help alleviate that, but it can also bring you a sense of justice, so you need to know the solicitor you choose will not only be able to handle your case but also get you the compensation you deserve.

Consider The Cost

The phrase “no win no fee” is a common sight when it comes to personal injury solicitors and the majority of them will offer it. But make sure you ask about it anyway just because many solicitors will work on a no win no fee basis doesn’t mean they all will so double-check to make sure they do.

While you don’t have to choose a solicitor, who will work on a no win no fee basis it’s highly recommended that you do. That way you are covered in case you lose, yes no one really likes to think about that, but it can happen.

But you also have to remember that you are aiming to win your case and therefore there will be a fee to pay, so you need to know exactly what the cost will be. Solicitors will usually take a percentage of your compensation in payment and this can vary widely so make sure you ask about the cost.

I Still Can’t Find Anyone What Do I Do?

If you’ve gone through all my suggestions and still can’t find a solicitor who you think will be able to handle your case, then what should you do? Well, you could always try asking friends and family for their advice if they’ve gone through similar experiences they might be able to recommend a solicitor.

But if there’s no help there then you can always turn to the internet for help, most discussion forums and message boards will have a legal or advice section that can be a great help at pointing you in the right direction if you’re looking for a solicitor.

You could also consider using a Claims Management Company instead of going through the more traditional method of using a solicitor. Don’t feel like you have to rush though take your time and consider your options carefully that way you can ensure you get the best outcome possible for your compensation claim.
